Student Teaching: Secondary Sessions A & B
“Teachers teach because they care. Teaching young people is what they do best. It requires long hours, patience, and care."
--Horace Mann
Welcome to student teaching! You have two 8-week sessions in order to complete your learning experience in the classroom. You will be creating two Teacher Work Samples in order to research, analyze, and support your classroom experiences (one TWS per session). In addition, participation in the Discussion Forum is a powerful way to chat with fellow student teachers and gain perspective on the student teaching process. In addition to these resources, you'll also find all the lesson plan templates posted in the General Resources tab above. I'm looking forward to our time together and hope your student teaching experience is amazing!
TWS Details
Each week, you will be completing one component of a Teacher Work Sample; this is designed to help you look at the steps involved in assessing students, learning, and teaching. Here is an overview of the weekly tasks:
·Module 1 TWS: Complete factors related to the school and student demographics.
·Module 2 TWS: Outline a 5-day unit; be sure to collaborate with your CT.
·Module 3 TWS: Design and administer a pre-test to check for prior knowledge.
·Module 4 TWS: Plan your 5-day unit; you do not need to include the step-by-step details for each day but a general look at each component. You will be teaching this 5-day unit sometime during weeks 4-6; again, chat with your CT regarding specific pacing schedule.
·Module 5 TWS: Analyze one student’s learning.
·Module 6 TWS: Deliver a post-test and analyze data in order to assess student learning and your instruction.
·Module 7 TWS: Reflection regarding your improvements and professional development goals.

Module 2 TWS: ABCD Model for Writing Objectives
Never heard of ABCD objectives? Not to worry! I like the easy-to-understand explanation given at http://www.lucidway.com/writing-effective-objectives-the-abcds-of-objective-writing/
I've also attached an additional resource here that may also be of assistance (it has a couple of handy references to other sites, as well), but if you need more help, feel free to give me a holler!
